The Lagos that we rarely see..

Talk about "Lagos Cribs!" Yesterday, I saw some amazingly beautiful homes in Lagos. Of course everyone is not living like this. Like in any country class issues exists. However, I think it is important that people from the outside world know that countries in Africa are not just one way. So often we are bombarded with images of poverty, war and disease, causing us to actually believe that this is all the continent has to offer. Of course, these issues are important, but, if we only view a huge continent in this one way, it leaves us ignorant and extremely far from a feasible solution to deal with the key social and political issues at hand. Although we may not realize it, these very issues directly and indirectly relate to daily existence.

On my way to Lagos.

This will be my third time visiting Lagos. This time I'm doing an artist residency at the African Artist Foundation. I will be continuing my photographic essay on African Urban Music. I will also facilitate a photography workshop with women photographers in Lagos. I am pretty excited about meeting and working with 15 new photographers.

I am still on the plane, quite tired. I read a bit and now I'm enjoying the view of the sun's reflection on the clouds.

I am very curious about what this stay in Lagos will be like. I know it will be very productive and I'm excited about what awaits me.
